Fabric…or Leather?

When buying a new sofa, it is always a matter of choosing the perfect fabrication.  The question “fabric or leather?” needs to be carefully considered as there are many differences, advantages and disadvantages of the two.

It also always help to inquire about stain protection plans and/or warranty that might be included in your sofa.  If you are buying an expensive set, it’s worth considering these services as they help keep your pieces in showroom condition, extending the life of your upholstery.

Luxurious Upholstery

Home decor takes another new direction as we leave behind simple cottons and linens, now embracing fabrics like earthy suede, textured corduroy and sophisticated velvet.  These fabrics are luxurious, yet durable.

Trend Watch: Honey-Tone Woods

Light-colored woods have been considered outdated in the furnishing industry for years!

It’s about time that the world of furniture is finally taking a breathe of fresh air as 2014 will see a shift from darker wood to “honey-tone woods” such as pine, chestnut, oak and cherry.

There are various advantages of light colored wood.

Firstly,  smaller spaces benefit from lighter shades because it helps promote an open, spacious feel.  The light hue also mixes well with clean, white walls.  Additionally, it also works well with other colors since the natural color of wood when combined with subtle colors, gives a calm and inviting atmosphere.

Home Fashion 2014: Black & White

Bold, geometric black and white is a hit this Spring 2014 season, from fashion designers such as Stella McCartney, Chanel, Missoni, Jil Sander and Fendi.

This classic palette can make the same impressive statement at home.

White walls, for example. They’re ba-ack!

L.A.-based designer Betsy Burnham describes white as the “ultimate palette cleanser”. “I used to think white walls looked unfinished,” she says. “It gives every space — even the most traditional — a modern edge, and sets the stage wonderfully for layers of color in upholstery, accessories, area rugs and art.”

Black and white has been a popular combination in Europe, but Denise Turner, color forecaster and founder of Color Turners has noticed that it’s making its way across the pond. Turner suggests it will take over entire rooms and recommends pairing it with hot accent colors for the latest look.

What do you think? Love it or hate it?

The Glamorous Home

I have spent 7 years of my professional life in the fashion and modeling industry.  Jumping into home decor and design…shouldn’t be any different…. right?

One of my favorite fashion designers made a magnificent point about the relationship of the two industries.

“Whether assembling an outfit or a room in your home, it’s always a question of a good eye, discipline, knowledge, and taste.” – Carolina Herrera

As my career takes a turn into the lucrative world of  home furnishing and design industry, I will keep in mind that it is no different, if not, even more glamorous, than the crazy-busy lifestyle of a Hawaii fashionista.

Hence, ladies and gentlemen, introducing The Glamorous Home– a blog dedicated to finding luxury in your home interiors, furnishing and decor.  It doesn’t matter if your space is big or small, whether you live in the heart of the city or deep in the country, whether you prefer the minimalist  or vintage style— whatever your heart’s desire, I hope to help you in feeling like the King & Queens of your castle.
